Drużyna Pierścienia

Wszyscy członkowie Drużyny zgłosili się do niej bez przymusu. Każdy mógł wycofać się lub zawrócić z drogi, lub skręcić na inne drogi, jeżeli nadarzy się możliwość, bo - jak w swych słowach pożegnania mówił Elrond - nie wiąże was przysięga ani obietnica, nie jesteście zobowiązani iść dalej niż zechcecie. Prowadzona przez Gandalfa Drużyna Pierścienia wyrusza z Rivendell 25 grudnia 3018 Trzeciej Ery. Przebyła długą i męczącą drogę, docierając do Gór Mglistych. Nie mogąc sforsować zaśnieżonych przełęczy niechętnie zadecydowano o skorzystaniu z drogi wiodącej przez kopalnie Morii. Niebezpieczna wyprawa zakończyła się upadkiem Gandalfa z Mostu Khazad-dûm. Dowództwo w Drużynie objął Aragorn, który poprowadził ją do lasów Lothlórien i dalej biegiem Wielkiej Rzeki Anduiny do Wodogrzmotów Rauros. 26 lutego 3019 Drużyna rozpadła się. Podczas odpoczynku na Amon Hen wędrowcy zostali napadnięci przez wysłanych przez Sarumana Uruk-Hai. W bitwie z nimi zginął Boromir, Merry i Pippin zostali pojmani, Frodo i Sam ruszyli dalej do Mordoru przez Emyn-Muil, jednak Aragorn, Legolas i Gimli postanowili gonić Uruk-Hai w nadziei uratowania hobbitów.
